The Killing VS Borgen - A worthy comparison???

I've just finished watching the last episode of Season 3 (and supposedly the last episode outright) and am positive that I will now be left with a quite sizeable Sarah Lund shaped hole in my heart. I've heard alot of people mentioning that Borgen (The Bridge) is another one of these fantastic Scandinavian shows that's worth checking out and I was wondering if there was anyone in the position of having seen both that could give me a little opinion of their own so I may make an informed decision. The reason I'm lloking for a heads up is that I find watching subtitled show on the internet to be a bit of a lost cause alot of the time. I bought all 3 seasons of The Killing after catching the first season on BBC4 but found the poor quality of the other 2 seasons online unbareable, so if someone tells me they think I'll like Borgen based on my love of The Killing, I'll pick it up tonight!!

I'm literally jumping on the Scandinavian TV show bandwagon here, I know nothing about Borgen other then it is from that part of the world and that it is more politically driven than The Killing. I'm not really into political shows but the bits in The Killing I really enjoyed!!

So would anyone say if I like The Killing I should defo check out Borgen or should I just crack on with whatever HBO show I come accross next!!

Cheers!!

I found the Bridge very close to The Killing. It is almost even laid out the same although with a different storyline. I gave it two thumbs up and definitely worth watching. I believe they are making a second season now to be aired in Denmark later this year. I can't wait.

Borgen is nothing at all like The Killing. It is 100% political about a women becoming Prime Minister of Denmark. Borgen means The Government. There are 3 seasons, so I don't know what you are comparing here

I loved Forbrydelsen. I gave Borgen a chance but had to stop after 5 episodes. I agree - Borgen is basically 100% political drama. I think it would cater more to people who are actually Danish or are familiar with the Danish government/politics.

Maybe the OP got confused and meant to compare Forbrydelsen to Bron/Broen ("The Bridge)? I really enjoyed The Bridge and am looking forward to series 3 (which, I think, starts Fall 2015). There are similarities between Sarah Lund and Saga: Both are hardworking, determined, perserviernt female detectives with prickly, emotionally distant personalities, awkward social skills and dysfunctional personal lives. Both are also a bit rough around the edges and not conventionally pretty. Actually, that's one of the reasons why I loved both shows so much. I'm not sure if this type of female protaganist could be as popular in the US (US versions of The Killing and The Bridge had gorgeous female leads).

You probably found out by now but "Borgen" is not "The Bridge". "The Brigde" in Danish/Swedish is "Broen/Bron". It really is worth a watch.

For those who are actually interested in a comparison of "Forbrydelsen" & "Borgen"...

"Borgen" glorifies & defends the yuppies and institutions...that "Forbrydelsen" exposes as weak and corrupt.

If you can look past the language-divide...you will find much more in common between "Borgen" & "Entourage". These are both pornographic celebrations of power.

Whereas, thematically & morally, "Forbrydelsen" has much more in common with "The Wire".

"The Killing" is way superior to "Borgen". Both share great acting, but the latter, while intriguing, wears it's political heart on it's sleeve and the writers are intent on shoving a none-to-subtle,left-wing political message down our throats. They don't seem to realise that you can make a political drama without being polemical, but then I have read that it was always intended to be propaganda.

I have enjoyed both immensely. Just so well acted and current story themes. I bought them both. Don't miss the other NORDIC noir , MHZ networks stuff...Beck..wallanders-all of them.

It is a year later so I assume you have the other great choices...UNIT ONE. BECK. WALLANDERS.. even Maria Wern. All good.
