Season 1 ends with much unresolved

I loved season 1 but was puzzled by how it ended. I fully expected season 2 to continue where season 1 left off but it doesn't.

Many questions remain about the politician's flat and what precisely happened there and how the perp was connected to that flat. The conclusion seemed like a hurried tacked on decision to end the season. I just didn't get it and didn't find it believable.

Season two is somewhat disappointing. Lund's character is as remote and disconnected from people as ever but it's harder to sympathize because she has virtually no personal life. In Season 1 her character had a richness about it. In Season 2 she is one dimensional, a virtual robot.

I totally agree with you. I was disappointed by the ending as well. All Danes were absolutely sure that the 2nd season would pick up where season left – tying all ends.

SPOILERS......

I also did not get what exactly happened in Troels’ apartment – the course of events on the murder night is unclear.

I watched the 1st season of Forbrydelsen in 2007, so I may not remember all things correctly. BUT what also bugged me was that the police inspector was covering up the murder of the second girl (in the water) – he pulled the file of the investigation. He as god as admitted this to Sara in the last episode and asked her to ‘let it go’. Why did he do that? The police inspector had good connections to the town hall. In light of the all the dirt that had been revealed around the town hall, you are inclined to believe that there is a connection.

Another thing – maybe you can tell me. Troels’ father suddenly withdrew from politics at some point in the past - can’t remember that we ever got an explanation as to why? But I thought it was an interesting piece of information. Especially as one of the characters said that it paved the way for the present mayor.

Anyway - we all thought and hoped that there was a big conspiracy going on. We loved to discuss and guess what really happened, who did it and why. In stead we got a common crime of passion. I still think Forbrydelsen was very good as it had me on the edge of my couch every Sunday in the first 19 episode.

Mind you the script writer did say from the start that the crime itself was not the key plot but only the premise. What interested him was the story of the characters around the murder and how they develop. WHAT IS WRONG WITH A GOOD CONSPIRACY?? Is it not intellectual enough?

I have just finished watching the final episode on BBC4 in Britain. It finished just about half an hour ago so it's fresh in my mind. What happened as far as I could gather was that Vagn was tipped off by the taxi driver that Nanna was at the party's flat and was going to elope with Amir. He went there as he was obviously potty about her, in a disturbed psychotic sort of way, and tried to "persuade" her to return with him. When she didn't he became violent (hence the mess in the flat) and then dragged her off to Birk Larson's new house where he raped her in the cellar. He then dumped her in the car and drove to the woods. She got away but he caught up with her, got her into the boot of the car and drove it into the river. That is as far as I know the sequence of events.

Exactly how I read it. Classy TV.

"Eternal is the warrior who finds beauty in his wounds"

reply

Yeah, that's definitely how I saw it, too.

I don't think that the political stuff is really left unresolved, either. When the mayor talks to troels in the hospital, he says that you become cynical because you have to use what you find out about other people to stay in power. I took that to mean that you have to keep your mouth shut about things you find out in exchange for favours or whatever to stay in power. In the same vein, Rie's father probably had to resign and make way for the mayor or be disgraced. In the end, nothing changes on the political front because although Troels tries to tell on Morten, Morten is still there beside him at the end , so he obviously doesn't. That leaves Troels with a future no better than the rest of them.

As far as not following up with tracking down the other murdered girls in season 2, I think they made the right decision. There was only one other girl in the water and the murderer was already dead. Where would the drama of tracking down a murderer before he struck again be? Perhaps their cold case squad would be interested but they wouldn't use the resources of a homicide unit to do it.

But hey, that's what I personally took from it, and it's only my opinion.

I do have to say that it's the best drama I've seen on TV since I can remember. I'm glad there's a second series to look forward to. Does anyone know when it will be out in the UK on BBC4?

They're coming to get you, Barbra!

reply

If you were watching last night and you left your telly on after the show finished you will have seen a trailer for the second series but no dates were given. Presumably they would not have bothered to show it if they didn't intend to show it, so fingers crossed!

reply

Thanks :-) Definitely crossed!

Why the need for the casual racism???? Jesus christ.... You sir, are an imbecile.

reply

And you sir, are a pathetic sanctimonious muck-raking troll looking to stir up trouble where none exists.

Let me explain in simple words and real slowly so even someone as obtuse as yourself can understand:

What you ascribe to racism on my part is nothing more than an attempt (and may I say, a very obvious one at that - if you even bothered to notice the quotation marks in my original post) to try to get into the head of Vagn to understand why he could do the things he did. To be able to get his view of the situation - a view so dire and prejudicial that drove him to commit a most horrific act. If you paid any attention to the show, however briefly capable you may be of it, it would be impossible to be blind to the fact that he was indeed a racist xenophobe, and in fact used the exact same slur (reproduced below verbatim) that you choose to attest to myself personally.

"Theis... Soon they'll tell you a lot but I want you to hear it from me.
Leon called that evening to tell you he'd seen Nanna. And that she planned to travel and elope with that Paki. I knew what you would say. So I went to find her in that flat to talk her out of it. She didn't want to listen. You know how she was."

And besides, you castigate me for "casual racism", and yet swear at me with a blithe "Jesus Christ"? Get off your pedestal and back on your meds. If and when you care to bring something more to a discussion than jaundiced and hypocritical personal attacks that really only reflect who you actually are, you may actually find yourself being taken a whit more seriously.

That's two minutes of my life squandered on you. Won't happen again.

What, trolls need to be fed on time now?

Season 2 didn't completely take away Lund's personal life - her mum's wedding, her son, her attraction to Strange. It's more that they made her character more extreme - she in full seriousity says: I know I'm right, damn it!, yells at an Afghan driver and strolls into the military showers to confront a naked officer. If they keep it up she'll turn into a caticature in Season 3.

reply

the word is seriousness - not seriousity
