How the hell is this still not available in the U.S.?

I have known about this series for years and have been waiting for it to be available on Netflix or Amazon or any other streaming service in the U.S. or if not streaming, then a region 1 DVD, but it still isn't here. 6 nominations and 4 wins and no one bothers to release it here.

I have streamed all of the original Wallander series here, the Danish series Riget, numerous Danish films and countless Swedish films and tv series, the French series Engrenages, British, Irish, Australian, Argentine, Dutch and German tv series.

Forbrydelsen is meant to be one of the best crime series ever made and would have a significant audience here when and if it finally comes out. Are they really so pessimistic or uninformed about the US market for quality foreign movies and tv shows? There may only be a few million of us here but we are a very loyal audience!

Is Fox blocking its release to favor their remake? Forbrydelsen has been shown in 120 countries. I guarantee there is an audience in the U.S.

And no, I don't want to watch the remake. Originals only!

I had to just settle with buying the Region B format of the dvd set, and I formatted my lap top to watch region B movies. Or you could buy a region free blu ray player.

Yes, I know I may have to resort to that in the end, but I don't understand why are they being so stubborn about releasing it. Does it really cost that much? If not, hey, I'll buy the US distribution rights and sell it myself. I'm sure I'll come out ahead.

The best sense that I can make out of it is that, since we had an American remake of the series, which wasn't very successful in DVD sales, they probably don't think that the foreign version of the show would do any better.

I mean, we've been screwed for those of us who liked the U.S. version

Season 1 got a decent dvd and blu ray release
Season 2 got neither. It just got a lousy DVD-R release
Season 3 hasn't been released at all as of yet.

That's funny because we have both Wallanders and both Millennium series, among many others.

If you have a stationary PC, ripping software and a media player like WD TV Live, then the solution becomes a whole lot easier.

To save space on my shelf, i have ripped a few of my tv-shows on DVD to H.264 MKV's and have them on a USB disc with 3TB storage space.
The reason i did it like this, is because i rip in original pixel size, original bitrate and original audio. It saves a lot more space doing it like that, then using the dotty old Xvid codec, which is a "has been" for ripping DVD's since Matroska was founded.

What i use to create these files with is DVDFab 9. It also has the option of forcing subtitles in to the image if the tv-show or movie is in a language you don't speak.

I have a laptop, no ripping software (where do I get it?) and my player is Roku.

Is it possible to watch Forbrydelsen online?

You can buy the DVD ripper at http://www.dvdfab.com/
You can choose to buy it with 1 year of updates up to a lifetime.

Thanks!

You're welcome, just make shure that you are online while using it, because it checks if your version is valid and not a piracy version each time you choose to use it.

The link above appears to be dead, but http://www.dvdfab.cn seems to be fine.

Netflix has rhe Danish version in Uk and Canada I think for streaming. 3 seasons.
About the DvD boxes are they all out in Europe. If you have a zonfree player you can order it from axelmusic.com I think. If I renember right there is english subtitles on the DvD.
If you don't have a zonfree player it's possible to make it zonefree. I did it with my Philips. Google it and find a site (I can'treremember the url but it's out there) you add your player there and if it's possible there's a instruction how you do it. It's easy often do it with a few simple steps with the remote.

Axelmusic.com has not been around for years, they went bankrupt almost 7 years ago.
The next one to go bankrupt, was planetaxel.com, the American branch of Axel Music, this happened in 2012.
But you can order the original Danish seasons 1-5 from amazon.com, region 2 locked.

Releasing a better version of any series remake is a surefire way to get it yanked off the air after the ratings take a nosedive.

reply

So they are protecting their mediocre product by not releasing the original.

I watched season 2 on You Tube, searched for the one with english subtitles. Now looking for season 3 but so far no luck finding it with subtitles.

Any sign of season 1 on Youtube? Thanks for the info. I might watch season 2. Hopefully season 3 will be on for you soon. How long ago did the original season 3 air?

reply

"besosgigi" is the one with whole season 2 up with subtitles.
"the forbrydelsen" has season 1 with titles.
Still looking for season 3 which aired in 2012 I think.

reply

Thank you! Have you written to besosgigi about season 3? I will also do so.

I'm not very good at maneuvering through sites, if you find it please post, thanks!
Just watched Line Of Duty on Hulu Plus, don't know your taste but I really liked it! Great acting, exciting and suspenseful, 5 episodes in the series.

Got a code free DVD player for 60 bucks and use it all the time for the far superior NORDIC noir shows like this. Never bother with the Americanized stuff.

^That's what I finally did last December. Got so tired of waiting for this to be released in America. Ditto The Bridge. Season 1 was sold here, but season 2 never was.

You know, this is the first time I've ever felt sorry for American viewers. I'm usually beating my head against the wall trying to get my hands on new TV in any way possible down here in Australia. We have these ridiculous time lags (up to 6 months) for American and Canadian shows to become available legally and they don't even need subtitling!

But is seems like you guys have issues with the foreign language stuff which honestly deprives too many viewers of so much great and culturally diverse screen output.

reply

It doesn't make sense. With tech the way it is now we should all be able to get each other's shows instantly. Still, it makes one learn to be more resourceful!
