sara 84

Detective Jan Meyers final words were "sara 84" indicating to Vagn's t-shirt with "Sarajevo 84" written on it, which is how Sara found out about the killer. But wasn't it easier for Meyer to just say "Vagn". He knew his name really well and it would solve the case much quicker. I guess it was just for some suspense effect. Not to mention that coincidentally Vagn continued to wear the same t-shirt (which he never wore before) although it was part of the crime scene that envolved him. To me, this is just some sloppy writing.

Maybe he couldn't see Vagn's face?

reply

Yeah I think this is the reason.

Hmm, highly unlikely that he couldn't see his face. Why wouldn't he? He was just in front of him. It is never mentioned that he wore any mask. So, when someone attacks you, ofcourse you will first look at attackers face and then maybe t-shirt.

reply

If he'd been shot and was lying on the ground, I think it's possible that he didn't see his face.

Anyway, this is not real life, so for the purpose of suspense, he only saw the sweater, not the face.

I imagined Meyer had seen his face and that he wanted to leave Lund with something other than a name to be able to incriminate him. After all she thrived on the smaller details. That Meyer remembered anything in such condition is astonishing.

Just as an aside to that, at the house where Vagn puts on the sweater he seems to realise that Lund has him made but chooses not to do anything other than stop her briefly and let it go. Can anyone suggest why? In any case I thought the acting was just brilliant here...

Apologies if this is the wrong thread to bring it up.

It's maybe the perfect board to come up with these remarks as we are talking about Vagns sweater.
The thing is that there is a different level of information between Sarah Lund and Vagn. To Sarah it all becomes clear now, in this situation. Vagn seems to realize that there is something going on in Sarah's brain, but he does not know what and he can not figure it out, as he doesn't know Meyer's deliric last words.
And yes, the acting is brilliant, as well as the music, camera, ... in this scene.

English is not my first language. Any corrections are welcome.

I think any further signs from Sarah and its over for her, and as someone for whom she reserved thoughts as being a suspect now being a confirmed killer, she plays it so coolly. And yes because Vagn cannot figure out what she knows, he makes the decision to remain cool too because he feels he has gotten away with it and has all his tracks covered. Meyer has just done some great police work. ;-)

Thanks for your comments, your points and English make perfectly good sense.

He was just out of a coma. One's thinking can be very unclear and muddled after a coma. He was also most definitely on medication, heavy painkillers. That he could visualize "Sara 84" but couldn't think of Vagn's name is actually more realistic than if he just gave his name. Not sloppy writing at all.
