Searchers with Vampires

Did anyone else notice that much of the plot was taken directly from The Searchers?
1.War hardened veteran hunts down those who've kidnapped his niece.
2.The young buck tagging along to prove that he's also a fighter.
3.Young buck is in love with the damsel in distress.
4.War hardened veteran vowed to kill his niece if she's turned.

I kinda thought that was cool.

I realized that it had similarities, as well. only thing though, is number 3 doesn't fit for searchers, jeffrey hunter's character was not in love with natalie wood's character (the damsel in distress), he thought of her as his sister. but otherwise, that was my take on at least the part when they were sitting looking out over the wasteland and having their discussion and that came up, I immediately thought of 'ethan' in the searchers.

I actually liked this movie. I keep seeing people saying the actors couldn't act, but I don't see that. I guess it's because I frequently watch movies on Fear Net, and those are movies filled with some not so great acting. I mean, Christopher Plummer is a great actor, no matter what role he plays. Paul Bettany, too. Anyway, it's a good passing of the time film. It doesn't lose my attention.

it's also been theorized that ethan's niece is actually his daughter - i've been told there are a few clues that john ford drops regarding this in the opening scenes, but i haven't seen the film in so long that i can't really confirm or deny this.

baby can you dig your man?
he's a righteous man.

I've argued about this with my brother for years. I had always thought that John Wayne was supposed to be Natlie Wood's father in the Searchers. He told me that I was reading too much into the looks exchanged by Etan and Debbie's mother at the beginning of the film. To me it was clear that they were in love. The fact that Ethan had been gone for 5 years and Debbie happend to be 5 years old led me to believe it was more than that. I was delighted to see that brought to light in this movie.

If you take away the vampires you'll basically get Rambo and another 10000 a-vet-comes-home-the-war-is-over-for-everyone-but-not-for-him movies.

The vampires live on reservations? They aren't even covering up the fact that this is The Searchers.

I agree. After all, authors and screenwriters are always looking to retell an already successful story if they can, and modify it to suit the fresher ideas.
