Everything about Priest was over familiar - the plot, the look, the themes. The references were numerous; Blade Runner, The Searchers etc. Anyone agree?

The film seems The searchers but with vampires and there also a lot of references, like you said Blaid runner but also Crouching tigger hidden dragon because the characters of Bettany and Maggie Q have almost the same relation that Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh.
shareWow. I came on this board to post the exact same thing. Being a huge fan of The Searchers when I saw this I turned to my dad and said this is an updated version with undertones of Blade runner. Even the girls name is Lucy and I was Half expecting Karl Urban to be called Scar. I was witing to see the young sheriff say thanks "Ethan" and to see mose in his rocking chair. The world they were in is basically Blade Runner crossed with 1984. Glad someone agrees. Either way it was a fun movie albeit not an oscar winner and had little to no relation to the original graphic story.

I thought it was all great fun though!!
Anyone interested in the Searchers influences, should watch the deleted scenes. There's a deleted addition to the ending that even has the door closing in silhouette. :-D

Alien(s), Blade Runner and Planet of the Apes. The vampires reminded me of those from 30 days of Night as well.
Nonetheless the film Priest adds its own thing to the genre and in paying homage does it well.
