When is Part Two?

I enjoyed this film, good acting from Paul Bettany ( Maggie Q was a bit subdued though). CGI really effective in fact the whole premise was fine but its clearly a two parter, especially as the running time is less than 90 minutes.
The church is too good a villain to ignore!!

reply

Never, probably.

reply

this film was too short!!!!! i was like, thats it?

reply

There will never be a part 2 because the movie was *beep* and flopped at the box office and on dvd and blu ray nobody cared about this movie

reply

Can't tell if trolling or really just a mindless idiot.

1. a reason for a movie not getting a sequel definitely isn't because YOU didn't like it (remember, your opinions on film are OPINIONS not fact, you are not the one-knows-all on film)
2. This film definitely didn't flop (that would mean it made significantly less than its budget). It surpassed it's budget by a fair amount, but not enough to warrant a sequel.

You should really learn to...not be a complete idiot before you post stupid things. Just sayin

If a movie costs $60 Million to make and it pulled in only $30 Million at the Box Office, I would call that a flop.

reply

And i would call that another narrow minded guy who isn't aware of the fact, that there are more countries in the world than the USA!

The movie grossed $30 Million in the USA, but $50 million in the rest of the world. Not counting DVD and Blue-Ray sales.
If you know something where my return on investment would be 30 percent, please tell me! i want to invest there...

forgive me my bad english, i'm from one of the lesser countries that made Priest a HIT, not a flop

reply

^Uhh, you realize that the budget doesn't take into account how much it cost to promote the film and that not all of that money even goes to the studio right?

After you factor in those costs and the cut from the theatres, you'd struggle to break even with those numbers, let alone profit. From this standpoint, yeah it was a pretty big flop.

reply

The general rule of thumb is you double your production cost after marketing. Roughly 120 million dollars just to break even. Priest didn't even make 80 mil worldwide. Maybe 90 mil after poor DVD sales. Sadly, if you were to make an investment equivalent to the financial success of this film, chances are you wouldn't be posting smiley faces on the internet for a while...

reply

seems to me that the amount doesn't always makes a sequel, I've seen movies that sucked so bad people left the theater, but a year later a sequel was made.. and it was worse. so who knows why or what the studios were thinking when they make more.

reply

Now that Paul and the girl, are bigger stars, maybe the sequel would do better? All I know is I want to see them get the queen. Oh, and didn't Plummer just get Academy attention? That would definitely help a sequel make more money-the three of them.

reply

wtf are you talking about.. Paul bettanny and Plummer were both stars when this film was made.. its from 2011...

in fact.. this is the last film featuring Paul Bettany.. so what exactly in the mean time do you argue has made him a bigger star? as he hasn't made a single film.

and the girl a bigger star!? .. haha.. you don't even know her name.. but refer to her yourself as the girl.

I liked Priest a lot and would watch the sequel.

Ravage the land as never before, total destruction from mountain to shore!

reply

I wouldn't mind a sequel, but please for the love of God give us more story and character development.

reply

Looking at the box office figures, it is unlikely to get a sequel I think. But it was a great trip and there is much more here to explore. I really enjoyed this movie, much better than expected. It lacked the right marketing and went straight to dvd in most countries.

reply

i understand this 1 hit below the rader so there is not much of a chance for a sequel kuz of the non money making box office krap, but hey this was sum pretty o.g. based on a komikbook new vampire idea stuff so why not at least a straight to d.v.d. pt.2 and maybe 3 kuz u kno its got to at least b a trilogy these dayz besides ive seen way worse get plenty of sequel attention do i really even have to name namez?so kum on were waitin it waz jus the begaining remember, well not most of u sense not many saw it but i do so make it 4 me lol!

At least I am OK with the idea of straight to dvd sequels. I desperately want to see Cam "God" Gigandet again.

reply

...there probably will not be a sequel...the box office was just not sufficient.

However, I came here hoping there would be a follow up...maybe, who knows...I certainly would love to see a sequel. The visuals alone were fantastic.

They got what they deserved. They cynically made the film incomplete so that there would be a sequel, but in doing so created a film that wasn't good enough to warrant sufficient box office interest.

reply

Exactly. This film was good, but could have been much better and warranted a sequel.

reply

well I am very disappointed to learn that in all probability there will not be a part two &/or three. I bought the dvd and after watching it, didn't feel that I had wasted my money. Would definitely buy any follow-ups, so straight to dvd would suit :-)

reply

Not all movies have to be 2 hours, I thought the length of the movie was just right...

And clearly there will never be a sequel as the movie was panned by critics and cost 60 million to make and only made 30 million

It's been a long time. I shouldn't have left you, without a dope post to step to

reply

Since it's based on a series of books, there is likely to be a reboot someday down the line, hopefully with much better writing. The original story and characters were completely discarded here, suggesting a more faithful adaptation would make a better movie.

reply

I would say that the producers were just inspired by the manga. Nothing more. Since it has almost nothing to do with the original source.
And I don't think that the movie idea on itself was bad, it was just terrible executed. The dialogue is a huge turn off. But it's the same with Legion and Dominion. There is no way you never role your eyes.
It just looks like it isn't that thought through. It tried do focus too much on the visual aspect. I'm just a tad sad about the wasted potential of the actors.
