No church on Sunday?

When the father goes to visit his brother on his birthday, it has the family at home. I fiound that kind of odd. This was the early 60s afterall.
Even if they were not religious, I would have thought that they might try to fit in by going. I know it was almost pressured on people back then.

Just a fraction of families go to church. Even in the 50's.

I would disagree about only a fraction. Mainline Protestantism attendance was high and so was with Catholicism. Most of the churches were very against Communism at that time and were active.

In the 1970s tv series, The Waltons, which was set in the 1930s into the 1940s, the father never went to church. His wife was devout, and his parents and children attended every week, but he never went.
