Didn't Paramount learn anything from Paranormal Activity?

Why in heck are they remaking this. I thought Paranormal Activity would have shown them that they could actually release a good horror flick in the US even without name stars and make a bundle. The remake is sure to blow the subtlety this film has that makes it good.

And from what I've read, the remake won't be in documentary style.

That would be an improvement, IMO. I don't like the docu-drama genre.

Yeah, this is the first time I was happy to hear there'd be a remake. There is a good core idea in Lake Mungo, but the documentary approach was completely the wrong way to bring it out.

Can't stand the docu-drama routine either. Was completely unable to get into this movie and had to stop watching out of shear boredom, and I honestly can't think of a movie I've done that with in a long, long time. Now that isn't a commentary on the overall "quality", just the format. I can see how it appeals to people who watch that kinda stuff on TV(God knows it seems like every other cable series is a paranormal reality show), but the format is just completely devoid of what makes a movie a movie to begin with for me. Watched it as part of going through the new After Dark Horrorfest, so was even more taken aback. It's hard to reconcile Clive Barker's Dread basically going back to back with Lake Mungo.

Australian films often die at the box office, sometimes deservingly, but sometimes undeservingly just because they're Australian - meaning they're given short shrift by their own distributors and exhibitors and sometimes no one even knows they've been released.

Anyway I think this constitutes a perfectly sound case for a remake. If its a good idea that died, try again, put some Americans in it, and let some professionals who give a *beep* about their product get it screened around the world. Then even Australians will go see it.
