Twin Peaks anyone?

GREAT film (one of the best flicks i've seen lately) but seriously noone else got a serious Twin Peaks vibe from it?
The whole girl that dies and secret aspects of her life that no one expected coming to light, plus some paranormal stuff...Especially Alice's session with the psychic reminded me a lot about Laura Palmer's sessions with her shrink. At least Alice wasn't found wrapped in plastic :)

That's all I thought during the film. They had the same last name and several aspects were clearly influenced by Twin Peaks. Still a well made film and will be interested in how the remake turns out.

Yes. And it is such a pity because the film doesn't need those references. Part of the Australian cultural cringe perhaps, that someone at some point felt it needed to be 'like' Twin Peaks. Having said that it succeeds magnificently despite it.

Good reference!

Perhaps it's deliberate.

they re called the "palmers" in the film after all.

Sorry but the film literally stole everything from Twin Peaks. Way way beyond a homage- the neighbour in her house was Bob really, the dreams being analysed, the diary, the dead body, burying the items, the spooky lingering shots on the ceiling fans, the dream psychiatrist.
TP did it first and much, much better.

I am a big fan of Twin Peaks, and Lynch style in general.

Not once did I think about Lynch or TP. The fantastic heightened reality in Twin Peaks is completely opposite to the realistic nature of Lake Mungo.

reply

I agree. Just watched it and never once thought of Twin Peaks.
