there was a nice little creepy tension throughout the film but the only real scary part was the scene where the main girl records on her phone as she slowly approaches the image of her dead body in the nighttime desert- god that was freaky
don't look at me like that! It's not my fault idiot and liberal are such similar words
I watched this last night by myself in my apartment and I paused it halfway through to go close every door in the house (I didn't want to walk by open rooms on my way to bed when I finished the movie). Then this scene hit, and I was all, "WELL, GUESS I'M SLEEPING ON THE COUCH."
Totally unprepared. Given the 'mundane' nature of all of Ali's problems, I genuinely thought maybe she'd had a fight with her boyfriend at Lake Mungo, been raped, bullied, something other people had done to her to turn her from a vivacious, outgoing young girl into the depressed and introverted girl she was before her death.
It kicked the paranormal element up the backside and delivere a truly gruesome shock that no-one could have recovered from. Her actions afterwards seemed so pitiful and heartbreaking :( that poor girl.
I've been recommending this film to everyone i can, i've mentioned it on other boards. It's a nice little gem. There are several moments that got under my skin. But, yeah, the scene of the apparition caught on her phone was the "money shot" of this movie. I was watching this alone in the quiet dark. When the camera suddenly ZOOMED on that thing (coupled with the soundtrack) I nearly hit the ceiling. I laughed hysterically after that & was quite pleased - before the film had ended - because it had delivered what it set out to do.
That scene seriously freaked me out. I mean, just her going up to it was unnerving enough, but after the image un-froze... dear god. THAT'S how you do a bloody jump-scare!
