I get bad cell phone cameras, but...

Why were the cameras Mathew and Ray set up in the house so incredibly bad?...besides just to obscure what we see. I'm sure there were decent cameras in the mid-aughts EVEN in Australia!! I still don't know what we were supposed to see with the close up on the table in the hall(I think?).

Interesting and well-made, but flawed...

Maybe they had a crap camera? I have a crap one still. I have one that still takes only tape and not HDD or DVD. lol.

It could also be the interference of spiritual energy and night time filming as it would have to have been in night mode. with poor lighting. I believe spiritual energy is supposedly meant to impact on electrical items such as TVs, radios etc, so I would put that down to being that maybe?

Also the footage would perhaps have been manipulated by the brother.

Or technically the director wanted the footage to be harder to interpret to add to the film's climax and confusion over was she or wasn't she there as a ghost. The film is a lot about manipulation of images and perception isn't it?

lol. you do realise that Australia's been on par technologically with the states since before PCs right? haha

but thinking realistically, i think it was appropriate for the time and family type. Did you know anyone who could afford a HD camera 6 years ago, let alone have more than one video camera at that time? the handy cam wave only really kicked in around 07-08 in the migration to HD, where all standard def cameras (and tvs) started getting sold for next to nothing. but in 2005 it was still way too expensive for an average family to consider as a good investment. its not like they were gonna buy all new tech for filming either when it was really an activity of personal interest.

and also yeah, it was mostly to justify the blurriness. but that felt entirely in context. :)
