Why wasn't Ben arrested and prosecuted for negligent homicide or manslaughter (or whatever) for causing the car crash?

Going to prison might have been a way (duh!?) for him to expiate his guilt and still live a life afterward. Isn't that how we usually do things in our society?

Of course, then, no movie. I know, I know.

Not just prosecuted, also sued by the families of the victims whose death he caused by neglect. Ambulance chasers anyone?

He was the ONLY survivor of a 3 car pile that killed 7 people, the first question the police are going to ask is, what happened? As soon as he tells them, he is toast. He shouldn't really have a beach front condo left to give away!

All kinds of things have been ignored in an attempt to justify this idiots cause.

If he ever got caught pretending to be a government employee, his brother could of lost his job. Did he think about that?

"What was that, an exhibition?"

reply

Good points, Miktal. Was it really 3 cars? That must have gone right by me! Wow!

But yep, he goes around helping seven random strangers, while the REAL victims' families, what? Just fade away into the sunset? I think not!

The only thing I can figure is that since he walked away from the crash, maybe everyone assumed it was his girlfriend driving and didn't even know he was in the car. I guess that could be possible, but not too likely that he would just walk away from his girlfriend and not accompany her to the ER, if he really loved her so much!

Good point about his brother.

I guess it's "just a movie," like my Mom used to say! LOL

*have* could have.

Wow what would we ever do without Forrykook here correcting every little typo or error? Do you just read these boards to look for mistakes to correct? How sad.

He's a robot, not hard for him.

Read the newspaper clippings on wall Ben's brother looks at, and pause.

There was a trial. Ben lied never mentioned the texting , judge ruled accident on winding road and dark, possible animal darted in way.

He was found not guilty of any wrong doing.

That is the crux of his guilt, he caused it, and lied and got away with it.

Thus as the Shakespeare Merchant of Venice he owes a pound of flesh for each sin. 7 people for his pound each "metaphorically" and literally in most cases

So he couldnt just confess to lying under oath and go to prison to eliminate his guilt??

reply

Good lawyer. Besides, people have Life Insurance. Guys, reason in this. His wifw died too. Imagine his grief. The grief of their relatives, friends etc...

He gave a kidney to the woman who worked in the department that he could optain names from, so he couls investigate potential people who deserved a second chance in life. Did he give his kidney to her so he could gain access??
Also, would it not have been better to help the relatives of the seven people he killed in the accident. It is never mentioned in the movie about them.

reply

this is true, but it's also very possible that they didn't need help with anything. even more likely that they didn't want anything to do with him, making helping them practically impossible.
