I was so suprised how good this movie was.

Adam as an actor? As a boxer? Wow. I never even liked this guy and I say he did a great job? Solid.

Just finished watching it and I found it to be pretty damn funny. I was also very surprised by Adam's boxing - I figure he used to box when he was younger. In the movie they show a very young looking picture of him in boxing gear, so it's more than possible.

What a great movie!

I rented it last night based off these reviews, and it totally lived up to the good critiques. Very fresh and funny...

I'm right in line...
Did not expect a lot. And while it's not a great film, it was a very enjoyable Watch, with ample doses of warmth, good boxing and some very clever quips. Adam's got talent, and won me over!

What do you mean by funny? It isn't funny in the least. It's some cookie cutter *beep*

The hammer was never going to be a total blockbuster for me once i heard it was only showing in certain cinemas and struggled to get a distributor.

Im from the UK and only had an interest in this film because i was an extra in it during a trip to LA two years ago. I actually think the film is pretty decent, its easy to watch, theres a few laughs and the story is easy to follow, with a pretty decent ending.

I thought there was a good 4 or 5 good quotes in the film but it wasnt a laugh out loud comedy from start to finish which some people are suggesting. 7/10

reply

I will concede that much. There were a few good lines in this movie but that is about
the extent to which this film is entertaining.

yeah ok. it's like EVERY OTHER MOVIE OUT THERE, THE SAME COOKIE CUTTER CRAP HOLLYWOOD IS ALWAYS DOING.

oh wait, Adam had to pay his own money to get it released, and wrote and produced it himself. oh yeah that's right it's not more of the usual....huh

Pretty fn funny movie. I was pleasantly surprised, didn't expect much. He's obviously an experienced boxer, just by watching him hit the pads, bag and his jump rope. You don't get that good at it by not being forced to do it by a trainer. Trust me, I used to hate doing it until you get really good at it.

Anyway, back on topic. It's a really funny movie. I hope Carolla made some money off it since he had to put up the cash to make it (according to someone on here).

Great Movie Adam. If I was thinking of you doing a movie this is it. The down on his luck carpenter/ boxer was a cool idea. "I hit .690 in the Van Nuys unlimited arch league" was funny. You have to be from LA to appreciate this movie.

reply

I totally agree. This movie was really good. I think Adam Carolla has an acting future ahead of him!!!!

reply

That's what is so disappointing.. an indie film that looks like typical hollywood junk?
Great replica indeed. Compelling? Funny? No.

I know right? I saw this movie on demand with my mom the other morning and we loved it!

reply

Agreed. I was expecting some typical gross out type comedy. I was surprised how good it was.

Adam annoys the hell out of me and i was leary of watching it but i have to say this movie is extremely good and totally suprised me. Good job Carolla. X

I just caught The Hammer on cable and I'm with that reviewer on the first page, this movie was actually pretty good. I thought it was consistently laugh out loud funny throughout (not front loaded or backloaded like the typical uneven studio comedies where the third act is usually a big dud to wrap up the story), the romantic comedy part was even charming, and it had a sort of authenticity to it... like he seemed to know what he was talking about boxing-wise and construction-wise... so the funny situations rang true.

reply

Carolla actually was a boxer and construction worker...X
