It kind of had a Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai vibe about it. The average action movie is far worse than this. Cage's hair was a distraction and a bit disturbing, but I give this a B. The local actors were very interesting, and the gritty filming of Thailand felt realistic.

"Couldn't follow it?" This wasn't a complicated movie. It was a cinematic abortion, that might be why people didn't like it. If you did like this, you'd probably enjoy watching paint dry.

It did nothing well. It's one of those movies that leaves you scratching your head about how it even got made. Someone wrote it. Someone read and it and greenlit it. Someone actually got money together to make this nonsense. Someone casted everyone and scouted locations. People actually showed up and filmed it. Someone edited it, etc, and at no point did someone say 'Guys, what the hell are we making here. This is garbage.'
The acting was crap, the writing was terrible, the plot was trite. Even the action scenes were bland and boring. Like I said, I can't think of a single thing it did well. Not even 'so bad it's fun' like some other Cage flicks...
why the hate? maybe because Cage was an as####e in this movie, this could be his worst film, he was a "birdsh#t foreigner" indeed
