Second Series

Does anyone have any news on whether there is to be a second series? I would be furious with the BBC if they don't give this show a second chance, particularly as they so grossly mishandled the scheduling and the promotion.

But the BBC's not supposed to simply be a ratings-chaser - they get £3billion from license fees a year, to ensure we get top quality drama - which Lilies certainly is. The show also has a very keen fanbase.

Lilies ticks all the boxes for BBC charter remit. They'd be mad not to recommission. The show was relatively cheap to produce for a period drama as well.

This is BBC current statement with regard to second series:
"Thank you for all your requests for more on the Moss family. However, we have not heard, as yet, whether there will be a second series."

The fact they haven't straight out said no to second series must be promising. Or I am being too optimistic?

No. You should always be optimistic.

Well, only Fools and Horses did badly in the first series so did Red Dwarf. Red Dwarf only became a huge ratings success on the 5th series! This is the BBC not commercial television, they should give shows a chance to develop properly. There is huge potential here for a second and further series. We need a proper period drama series (not Heartbeat!) I can't think of a single one on tv at the moment. Even if it does appeal to the "Ladies" don't we have to put up with enough Top Gear and sport to justify it!

You'd hope the BBC would have the sense to re-commission this series. It's 'different' to the usual fare we get on telly these days, but top quality, and it wasn't too dear to make either, and has ready-built sets for an easy kickstart.

BUT I fear ratings is ALL nowadays ... I just hope the BBC sees the potential of Lilies, and realises that their own poor scheduling and promotion of the series didn't help viewing figures. One look at the hundreds of comments on the Lilies BBC website, which are very pro-Lilies and craving a second series, should surely persuade the BBC execs a second series is a good idea. I've rarely (if ever) got so passionate about seeing a programme back on the TV, and have already written to the BBC to praise the show and 'beg' for a second series - I doubt it makes any difference, but it felt better!
