Muddled allegory

Of living in alternate realities, whether it's computer games or movies or drugs. It's fairly clever but a bit unfocused satire of Hollywood, stardom, movie and tv industry wrapped in some religious sci-fi allegory of alternate realities.

Writer-director John August has said he was addicted to World of Warcraft. He's also fairly well known screenwriter of movies such as Go, Big Fish etc. So in this movie he mixes his experience in movie industry and his experience as creator of alternate realities in screenwriting with his computer game addiction.

It's not just about movies or just about computer games or just about screenwriting. It's about all of those, and little bit about crack and religion too.

I liked the mix of themes specially the different roles each character had and their part in him "waking up".
