Christianity Parallel Theory

My christianity theory:

Ryan Reynolds is more or less God/ Jesus Christ.

He made the world, he lived in it, he didn't want to go but was reminded by angels (the other "characters") that he has a higher purpose so sacrifices his life in this world even though he didn't want to (just as Christ didn't want to go before he died on the cross but knew he had to for the benefit of the world.) And lo, the final scene shows that the world is better without him.

Thoughts?

I could go in to a lot more detail but once you start thinking about this idea it seems to fit in to place quite nicely - plus it's almost 2am and I can't be bothered to keep typing!

"oh mummy, oh daddy - lets all play Kabadi!"

Actually, in the world of the movie it seems to me that Christianity is a religious distortion of the truth, namely that there are world-creating aliens out there.

...and, more in depth, any god on planet earth is really G. he plays human forms of the deities to see what happens (like playing a cleric or warrior in an RPG game).

reply

Exactly, this is a movie about beings creating alternate realities, not really christianity so much

Great point Sarastro!

That is a pretty silly comparison. None of the characters in The Nines send themselves to Earth to be sacrificed to themselves because they were offended by the race they created & decided it was the only way to forgive them. The Nines contains much better writing than the bible & it's a lot more logical.

I'm certainly no fan of the Bible, and it does have many, many huge flaws, but this film is neither well written nor logical. And at least the Bible does have points of interest, which is more than this excuse for a film could honestly claim.

Umm.. What are these "many huge flaws"?

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

You mind if God quotes you on this?

reply

Depends which God you are referring to. With something like the internet, which spans many different cultures, the word doesn't really contain any definite meaning in a forum like this.

memo: men wrote the bible, not a supreme being. Unless you're saying that a supreme being contradicts itself.

reply

Maybe you should get the DVD out and watch the short 'god' and then consider your theory in the wake of the director/writer's other work.

reply

Actually it's more on the theme of the simulation hypothesis, but sure, I can see your angle.

reply

That doesnt work in film rules.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for enough good men to do nothing.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie but it had absolutely nothing in common with Christianity.
