Is this movie worth it???

Seeing Alicia Vinkader win best supporting actress and Eddie Redamayne nominated, just wanted to know if it was pretty good

See it and find out.

No one can tell you if you'll think it's worth it. Depends on what you like and what you're in the mood for. I saw it twice in a weekend. Beautiful looking movie and a touching story, for me.

Yes. Not the best movie, but a nice transgender story (who portrays both perspectives, including the wife's view) with great acting and cinematography.

Someone stated in an other thread that the movie was Oscar bait and I agree. I got it loan from the library to see what all thee hoopla was about. So many of the Oscar nominated movies were just not good and this was no different. I seen worse, but this wasn't all that. The movie Tangerine (2015) was funny, engaging and filmed using an iPhone...now THAT should have gotten an nomination at least. This film pandered. It was political, and Vikander's acting was better in Ex-Machina and The Man from UNCLE quite frankly.

While the movie did a fairly good job of telling Lili Elbe's story, I would recommend reading the book first, as there is so much more material stuffed into those pages than they could ever manage fitting into a 2 hour movie.

As to whether or not you'll like it? It really depends on your preferences. The events take place in the 1920's - 1930's or so, which sort of reminded me of the Great Gatsby just a bit, though instead of wild parties and intertwining scandals, this is a much more personal and emotion driven movie.
