sad to say i found this to be a tad overrated..

i really wanted to love this film.. yet, in the end, watching it became a chore and i found myself checking to see how much time was left before i bailed.. i stayed with it till the very end but i would never watch this again and i was certainly relieved when the credits rolled..

the reason for my opinion is that much of it seemed to be silly overwrought drama.. i.e., drama for the sake of drama.. the cinematography was breathtaking, but the content was painfully dull..

it is really a shame for the story seemed very compelling, at least on paper, and redmayne and vikander are truly great actors.. however, in this, their talents seemed woefully wasted..

ps: also, as someone else has stated, redmayne's silly 'grinning' almost tuned the whole thing into a long benny hill skit and not in a funny way..

it wasn't the fall from her 16th-floor penthouse that killed her, it was the landing

Yes the cinematography is lovely, and the acting was really good. I also really loved the wardrobe.

That's a shame you didnt like it, especially if the story grabbed your attention before seeing it. I didnt find it to be 'drama for drama's sake' at all and really enjoyed it but appreciate your PoV. I didnt know anything about this except from the trailer. I had never heard of the fictional work, or the two artists. I just loved the look of the trailer and I really liked the director's work for The King's Speech. Maybe revisit it down the track and you might get something different out of it?

Pre-surgery Lilli really drew me in, and I was completely into the movie.

After...I was just supremely turned off by how selfish and self-centered Lilli became. Like Gerda had lost nothing. Like she didn't mean anything anymore, she didn't have a use or a purpose.

I'm actually watching it right now, I'm making myself finish it. Maybe I'll post an updated comment when it's over.

Blame poor writing for it.

Well, that's the result of poor writing.Instead of focusing on Einar into becoming a transgender Lili as his character wasn't fully developed, the viewer ultimately focused more on Gerda. Her joy and suffering as Einar's wife unfortunately became the subject of the film which wasn't supposed to be. Didn't Alicia Vikander won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress? One commenter was somewhat confused because he/she felt that Alicia was practically in every scene and was the focus of the story. But that is not suppose to happen. But with her wonderful performance, it happened unfortunately. That is why her Oscar was a well deserved victory.😉

Not at all. Redmayne and Vikander made it a good film due to their performances as Einar/Lili and Gerda respectively despite poor writing.Besides, one got another Oscar nomination and another got to win an Oscar. Both got recognized and it will help them to get more acting offers in the future.
