Card (major spoilers, not covered, you have been warned)
I'm a little confused about Card & Anson...when we meet Anson, and he reveals his true identity, he tells Michael that he's 'the last one,' meaning, the one person from the "Management" group (John Mahoney's & Vaughn's) Mike thought was still out there, even after he & the CIA set about wiping them all out....
(I mean, if Anson knew there was at least Card still out there, wouldn't it have made sense to tell Mike that there were still lots of operatives out there? let him chase ghosts forever? I can see him not saying, 'I'm the second to last one, there's even one more beyond me,' because that would obviously focus Mike, but telling him there are lots would have him chasing down leads for years, possibly never even getting to Card)
if Card was a part of this organization, too, what, did Anson not know (and, I guess there was no trace of him in any of the files and such that Mike reviewed that led him to the conclusion that there was still someone out there)? I can't really see Anson covering for Card to protect him (unless he thought that would benefit him if he ever was caught, that somehow Card would get him released, through, I don't know, corrupting the evidence against him, or something?), and it seems like Anson was pretty high up in the organization, like he & the John Mahoney character started the group, with Anson acting as a screener for possible recruits through his 'day job', I can't see them being so compartmentalized that Anson wouldn't at least know there was someone else, if not Card's name (and his connection to Michael - and on that, are we supposed to presume it was Card's idea to burn Mike, then bring him in?)
right before Anson is shot (by a man hired by Card), he seems pretty sure he won't be punished, because he knows where too many bodies are buried, so that would make it seem like he did know about Card, and would give him up to save himself, if caught, or that Card, as stated above, would do something to prevent his punishment - and he clearly did not anticipate Card's lethal protection (of himself) plan, since he wasn't acting scared, or nervous, or predicting his doom if he & Nate didn't get out of the open ('let me go, if you turn me in, it's the same as killing me!'), he was cocky, very sure he was untouchable
so my overall question is, was Card retconned into the "Management" organization (possibly to stretch the series, and provide a link between stuff in seasons 5 & 6)? so much of this series seems so well planned, I hope that isn't the case, but it just never seemed like he 'fit,' to me....he had to have known Michael might come to him to help free Fiona, and that Mike's tracking of, and desire to kill/capture Anson could eventually uncover his involvement, yet he never tries to discourage Mike, never seems to, I don't know, steer him wrong, send him on wild goose chases, he uses him for CIA jobs, and even gives him the name of the sniper, which seems an awful chance to take, unless he just couldn't foresee either that Tyler wouldn't be able to kill Mike in Panama, eliminating the threat (and, I'm guessing, Tyler would have then become the victim of a 'tragic accident'/heart attack/suicide, to close the loop completely), or that Mike wouldn't just kill Tyler on sight, that he'd listen to him, believe him, then team up with him, and for a guy who was part of an organization like Management, and was able to run ops around the world, for private benefit, all while remaining an agent in highly great standing with the CIA, it just doesn't seem possible that Card wouldn't have war-gamed everything out (possibly with Anson's help, using his analysis of Michael), and planned for every contingency
thank you for reading, and I appreciate any thoughts or insight you would like to share :)
