Be happy that it made it to 7. It was clear they could only keep one plot going for so long. At least they focused on the story for the last two seasons.
from articles I've read that came out around the end of the series, and interviews I've watched, it was a mutual decision between Donovan & Nix, who convinced USA Network that it was time, Donovan was newly married, with a daughter, and he was getting older, it was a very physical show, and he was in it so much, I think the workload was catching up to him
shareI would bet the actors demanded more money and the producers said seven seasons is good enough for me.
Big mistake. Where are they now?
Ending the show was not a mistake. Look at the abortive attempt to continue Scrubs one season beyond the point where all the main actors could participate. The writing was still fairly good in seasons 6 & 7 although the perpetual jeopardy was quite tiring (it was hard to be happy at the end of each show). They ended it before the writers and actors burned out, so the final season didn't suck - that was a great idea !!!
