i loved this movie.

i know it may have seemed like one of those slow and boring films, so some people might not enjoy it. but i thought it was beautiful and also sad. i really enjoyed it. john keats/ben whishaw is a handsome guy in this movie. keats and fanny were cute together. and also toots was adorable. haha

I just watched Bright Star this afternoon and enjoyed it. It is what I call a 'quiet' movie but not boring. Ben Whishaw's portrayal of Keats was the main strength of the film and Abbie Cornish was good too. I had to read Keats for two of my English Lit classes in college. I don't read poetry much now but because of this film I'd like to revisit his work. His lines are beautiful.

The following is just so true, so perfect, so stunning, that it takes my breath away:

But this is human life: the war, the deeds,
The disappointment, the anxiety,
Imagination's struggles, far and nigh,
All human; bearing in themselves this good,
That they are still the air, the subtle food,
To make us feel existence, and to shew
How quiet death is.
from Endymion, Book II, l.153-159.

Thanks for posting the verse, aGuiltySoul. I feel like picking up that book Poetry for Dummies.

Like you, I did not find it slow and boring. I thought the pacing was exactly as it should have been. I can't think of a more beautiful film I've seen in recent times. Bright Star fulfilled all my expectations and then some. It's definitely a gem in Campion's repertoire

I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.

now that reread what i wrote... i think calling it slow wasn't the right word for me to use. i only thought "slow" because i was waiting for something to happen and it was taking awhile. honestly, i REALLY enjoyed this movie. it was different than most of the other movies i've seen. i waited months just to see this movie and i wasn't disappointed.
