the 'I'll Wait' deleted scene

Wasn't there a thread discussion about this once upon a time? There was no commentary on the dvd about why this scene was deleted. Does anyone know the reason? I think including the scene would have made the ending a little sadder than it already was; but it might have been a good thing to see John's frustration at having to leave Fanny, as evidenced by his insinuation to her that she didn't care quite as much as he did and his display of jealousy. I think he knew that she did love him very much. But I imagine being faced with an almost certain imminent death and therefore also a thwarted relationship would put anyone in a really bad mood at the time of parting! An emotional and even irrational outburst would be no surprise.
