Just horrible.Might be the lack of lips or something but it was painful to watch!

...what sort of kissing did you expect considering the time period of this film?
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.
Listen here, Video Store Girl, one of the things that utterly turns me off of a film is when they show either a shy young girl or young boy kissing like they've just been watching porn. The method of kisses exchanged by these two people is appropriate not only for the time but reflects Fanny's young sheltered life.
Yet this film is utterly sensual and sexy. One of the two sexiest scenes in this film are
#1 when Keats spontaneously reaches over to touch Fanny's hand after dinner
#2 when they each press themselves against opposite sides of the same wall.
In this day and age of casual nudity on the big and small screen, this film is a lesson in the power of the subtle art of the sensuality of desire, however unfulfilled. And yes, even in the clearly unskilled kiss.
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
haha woah, calm down. Just looks like hes a lousy kisser.watch Becoming Jane-atleast James McAvoy looks like he can kiss.Keats-got no lips, aka dont know how to use em. Sorry if I offended you and this period piece.im just having my say!

You didn't "offend" me, I was simply disputing your statement. If what you are saying is that you think Ben Whishaw doesn't do the lip lock very well, "Keats-got no lips, aka dont know how to use em," then I'd say neither of us will probably have the ability to prove or disprove it. It's not in the appearance, but the sensation, that matters.
Has anyone reading this ever kissed Ben? We'd like a report, please.

Yes, and I'll bet it's sweet too.
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
Hello? Did we view the same film? I have no idea what you're talking about but the dude has lips and the idea was to make the film look sensual...not for him to stick his tongue down her throat and gag her. I think you've spent too much time watching contemporary films.
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.
I think she's spent too much time working at The Video Store.
shareI was just waiting for Fanny to take her top off! :)
Wow, I am amazed how many people don't find the kissing romantic. It's innocent, backed with the passion of the mind. Creativity in the mind and heart of Fanny and John. She's 18 in this film too and raised in polite English society. I don't expect her to run her tongue into John's mouth and then get knocked up like Abby the maid. I guess people don't get subtlety anymore! :(

BTW, tigerbos and other fanatical fan girls, I've read all your arguments...
Soooomebody is obsessed with tigerbos, and others. I think YOU need to get a life.

Obsessive and paranoid too. How is disagreeing categorized as "attacking"?
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
I'm really hurt that you think I don't have a life...unfortunately, since you've posted on here multiple times, this must prove you don't either...also thanks for looking into your crystal ball thinking you know everything about me; ie. fanatical FANGIRL, etc. etc.
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.

Why do you care? Who is "we?" Obviously "you" are the only one making an ordeal out of it. So I suggest if you don't like what I post here, then don't come here. End of story. If you come back and argue again, then you obviously have proven you don't have a life either...
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.

...You're so right. I have absolutely nothing to do...this comes with having won the lottery and sitting and eating bon bons while people like you have to be creative in your loitering...
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini.
now, now, jcampyy, let's get out crayons out of the kindergarten sandbox and talk like grown ups.
Having intelligent input in a conversation about a film is considered desirable, even admirable, so much so that noting the many, many times it happens is not a slur but a compliment to the OP. However, posting short pithy, and rather ignorant comments such as you have done is considered excessive, even obsessive, at "three, four times tops."
"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."
I couldn't agree more with aGuiltySoul. I think the kissing scene in this film is actually way sexier than most of the usual fare of tongues and slurping noises we get on TV and films these days.
shareI don't know about you, but the kissing scenes were so painful to watch because they made memories rush through my veins.
Horrible kissing????
It's a breath of fresh air, too much of kissing these days in film involves people eating each other's faces off (there are some exceptions but rarely).
It was very romantic!
"No matter what you do or where you go, we'll meet again."
Jane stated Ben is shy, so maybe that could been the reason too. The film was OK, and the romance was sweet. I don't think they were going to get too hot and bothered with the younger siblings and mom keeping an eye on them.
shareIt's called characterization. Even realism. These are early 19th century shy romantic virgins. People who think it was a mistake on the part of the actors, Whishaw or Cornish, are idiots.
