Not a very Campion production

Did any other fans feel that way?

The Piano and Top of the Lake are quintessentially Campion despite having being made around 20 years apart. I have yet to see her early indie productions.

Bright Star still has her moodiness, realistic style and poetic aesthetics. However, it distinctly lacks her energy and introverted but passionate way of looking at life. The feminism is also vastly toned down, but that's actually a good thing. The raw, terrific acting is missing as well.

It's almost as if this made by a less talented Campion imitator.

There is almost no answer I can give to you. This is not only a Campion production, she scripted it too. Jane Campion has said more than once that she is incredibly proud of this film.

As for telltale characteristics, I find her perspective, eye for detail, and her rather quirky characters are evident here, bound within the restraints of a historic biography.

This remains one of my very favorite films.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

Written, produced, directed, with final approval of all locations, as well as obviously casting? It would seem to me very clearly, a Campion production, concerning a subject she is clearly passionate about.🐭
