I believe it's anal sex. You're right. Wong looks and sounds kind of in pain in that scene. Not that I'm saying she doesn't "enjoy" it, though... I'm not sure if it is really a "rape". Just look at few other topics in this board. There are few long discussions about the sex scene/s. You'll know what I mean. About the similarity with Last Tango in Paris, do you mean only that those two scenes displayed anal sex or the meaning of the scenes? I watched Last Tango years ago and I don't think I was mature enough to really understand the movie. My reaction when I watched that scene in Last Tango was just, "Oh my god, that must be hurt as hell. I'll never ever want to do it". But the scene in Lust, Caution is very meaningful. Those two "lovers" are trying to show their power and control to each other. And personally, I think there isn't any real winning or losing in their game as they both were "brutally and (strangely) happily" trapped.
oh i completely agree, i just noticed how in both scenes from last tango and lust caution were both about power and dominance. in last tango, jeanne still remains in a broken love with paul, just like wong with mr. lee in lust caution. but i figured both were featuring anal sex, just because of the display of brutality by the male figures. it might not have been considered rape, because for the most part the females were willing, but it was still pretty strange.
I thought the same on both counts. While it may have been an anal rape, his forcing himself on her in any way could bring the same reactions of pain. As soon as I saw the movie especially that scene I thought of Last Tango and the butter scene in particular.
Last tango was tame compared to this film which is straight up softcore pornography .Plus the actors in this con't compare to a brando type they just arent that good ,hence all the sex .
Let's face it, people hate art movies. Especially when they are not expecting an art movie"
