Holding the baby

I didn't see this mentioned by anyone (but I might have missed it).

Did anyone else cringe when seeing the way the mother held the baby without supporting her neck?

It was interesting when the father said the baby likes it when you support her neck. Well not only like, but isn't it recommended? And not supporting the baby's neck can be damaging?

Surprising considering this was the mother's 2nd child and actors or not, that was a real infant, right?

The American Humane Association is all over no cruelty to animals (always) and I'm a complete dog lover, but I also thought the infant was quite adorable.

Even if she cried loudly. ;-)

I have to admit that every time Vera Farmiga was stumbling around with that baby I'd be wondering whose kid that was that they weren't throwing themselves around after her in concern. Especially the part where she's yelling and cursing her mother-in-law she was all over the place. But it was an admittedly genuine portrayal of a disturbed woman, lol.

Vera Farmiga is a mother, so presumably she knows how to hold an infant - I'd guess that the scenes where the baby isn't directly shown (ie. that scene where she screams at the mother-in-law, where you can only see the baby's back) were probably using a prop baby.

I'd certainly hope it was a doll but I tried to look closely and it had to have been a very good one. And not to disparage Vera but having a child doesn't automatically make you mommy capable. There's plenty of news that shows that. Watching that scene made me more anxious than watching Brittany Spears with her kids as babies.
