a budding serial killer

I think this is an effectively creepy and disturbing portrait of a young man who will one day be a serial killer....who might end up "mummifying" his victims (as we see he did to his guenie pig....pulled out it's insides and then stitched it back up). I think the film is a lot more simple than people seem to think it is. It's a movie that wants to be creepy and it succeeds at that. Also... never been a Dave Matthews fan but I think his song during the credits (long version of Joshua's song to his uncle) is really really haunting...it actually gave me little chills...."When I pull the wings off the fly, the fly never wonders why" Creepy!!!!!!! In the director's commentary he says that Dave Matthews was asked to write a song for the film after watching a rough cut of it....really well done. Anyway, I liked this movie that nobody seems to like very much. I think the acting was great, it had good dialouge , it was well directed and photographed..... and I had a nice creepy and disturbing time watching it.

I think it's a great film as well. The acting is the best part of the film. Joshua is one of the most interesting characters I have ever seen in a movie. I felt really sorry for him because I felt that his parents weren't the people he belonged with. He was unlike any other child (which is why he had no friends) and his parents weren't the proper to take care of someone so unique. They obviously preferred his sister over him so his weird behavior (such as collapsing at the talent show, cutting open his toy, and changing his religion suddenly) were desperate attempts to get their attention. When that didn't work, he developed an elaborate plan to live with his uncle because he was the only person Joshua felt any connection to, and Joshua felt he was the only person who loved/understood him. That's how I interpret the film anyways. It's great that this film is deeper than your typical "evil child" movie. Jacob Kogan and Vera Farmiga should've been nominated for an Academy Award for their performances in my opinion.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

I agree about Vera...she was INCREDIBLE in this film! I think she is a continuously underrated actress. So impressive in all her roles
