In the Beginning

In the beginning of the movie when Ned picks up Joshua, Ned runs across the road with traffic zooming past and leaves his son behind, he calls for his son to cross and suddenly a car drives past, if Joshua had crossed at that moment he would have been hit by the car. Joshua is just standing there staring at his father in disbelief, his father didn't care about his safety.
Everything seemed to go downhill after that.

I don't remember that part but I'll certainly watch for it the next time I watch the film. Anyways, I feel the father acted like he cared about Joshua just because he had to. There wasn't a true connection or any true love there. Those parents simply weren't the right people to take care of a child so different than all of the others. The fact that the father turned his back on his son at the slightest sign of mental illness shows that he didn't truly care about him to begin with in my opinion.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

You are not from new York. when he crossed the street the walk sign had just turned to the stop hand blinking. you still have about 30 seconds or so to hustle yourself across the street.

there was not traffic zooming by when the father ran across the street. ned runs across the street but does not leave Joshua behind. Joshua doesn't come along. he is probably stunned over him having to leave his game because his bitch mother had another child.

didn't you hear and see that father groan when he said to come on and then the cars zoomed past?

can't believe you didn't have a problem with the shoutings of 'you're playing like a little girl.'

Oh Thank you God! Thank you so BLOODY much!Basil Fawlty

You're right, i watched the beginning again and Joshua held back as his father crossed the street. Joshua didn't like soccer anyway so i don't think he was worried about leaving but not for the reason which was the birth of his sister.
It was another father shouting about their team playing like a bunch of girls. Meh.

I didn't say it was Joshua's father who was saying derogatory things.
