About the name JOSHUA

I've seen some interpretations saying the boy character is intentionally called JOSHUA because JOSHUA is a name originating from the Bible. Is the name has a peculiar connotation which can explain the boy's psychopathic behavior?

I was wondering too. The meaning of the name is something with 'saviour'. Since there was a line about saving in the song (about the parents who tried to save him while they should have saved themselves) I wondered what this means psychologically. Or is it a coincidence? I don't have a clue why the boy is so messed up though. It looks like the uncle needs to be saved now. I'll watch the whole movie again, maybe that helps finding some answers.

Joshua is Hebrew and means God is salvation. The biblical Joshua took over the leadership of the Israelites after the death of Moses. After the escape from Egypt and forty years' wandering the desert, Moses dies in sight of the 'promised land'. From this point Joshua leads them in the violent conquest of Canaan. The film shows Joshua reading the biblical book of his namesake, highlighting the violent passages, so I believe we are to take something from this as part of the explanation of the story.
