Etnrance to Vatican Archives. Is it goof?

How can someone enter to Vatican archives and library? I thought only Roman Catholic academic may enter. But Langdon is atheist well he raised as Roman Catholic and in one the books he still goest to sunday masses but is this a goof?

I think need opens many doors for many people... Langdon was needed, he got in.

I think you'll find that when it becomes a case of "You can follow the rules and be turned into a free-floating cloud of vapour along with most everything you care about in life, or break them and live", many rules fall away.
