Ewan McGregor's Irish accent

anyone here think it was more Dublin than Northern Ireland?

Yeah, I thought that. Definitely didn't sound like an Ulster accent to me, which is ironic in a way, because it's often the case that Hollywood thinks that's the one every Irishman speaks with.

It didn't even sound Irish to me, sounded more like a Scotsman trying to sound like he had lost his accent due to living in England, lol!

I thought McGregor's accent was terrible, my only real gripe about his effort in this movie. I kinda feel like the way they tore the book up didn't do justice to McGregor because the camerlengo is a more dynamic character in the book and would have suited him well.

Well, if he was brought up in Italy since the age of 9, why does he still have an Irish accent?

Ewan's a Scot. He had to try to sound somewhat like Alec Guinness for the Star Wars prequels and I guess he never got his normal accent back. Ewan still sounds like Ewan to me no matter what.

I thought he was Welsh.

I can never tell the difference between Scottish and Irish. I thought he had a Scottish accent. Oh well.

They changed his nationality, they didn't intend for him to be Italian/brought up in Italy. This is evident with the fact that they changed his name. In the book it was Carlo Ventresca. In the movie, Patrick McKenna. He is playing an Irish.
