Tried to find the answer to why there has never been a Pope Luke...
And... I dont know. Why have there been so many Johns and Matthews and Marks but never a Luke? Is the name Luke special for some reason?
"R.I.P. Harry Kalas"

Luke was a uniquely Greek name without much of a Latin equivalent. Since most popes are/were Italian, the other names tend to fit better with local italian tradition/culture.
I happen to think Luke was a pretty cool guy -- doctor and historian/scholar.
i'm surprised too, i always thought that luke was a prominent witness in the bible being a doctor etc. i never thought of the reason as to why luke wasn't top of the list in pope names
shareLuke wasn't a prominent witness. Out of the four gospels his is the only one not written by an apostle and it's possible he wasn't even around when Jesus was, but rather compiled these stories after Jesus died.
sharethanks for the clarification
shareNone of the gospels in the bible were written by apostles. they were written mostly after apostles death, some decades, some hundreds of years later.

The spirit of abysmal despair
It's based on choice by the pope-elect himself. If you open your Bible(New American Standard Bible)you'll see a list of popes, starting with Peter.
The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!
Well I know that. I know the pope picks his name, and there has never been a Pope Luke, my question was why, and seems to have been answered.
"R.I.P. Harry Kalas"
Luke ? As in Luke Skywalker ? Lol , and we have Obi-Wan Kenobi starring in this movie .
