How does this have an 8.0?!

I watched up to S1E5, and specifically up to the point where for some reason they decided that dieing of carbon monoxide inhalation while *beep* around with stuffed snakes was the best course of action in a building fire.

Does the show get better later? Its one of the worst things I have seen up to this point. But it has good ratings, so there must be a good point.?? What is it?

Bunch of diehard fans rated their show extraordinarily high..

That explains the 10-ratings. But around 8 is kind of the gaussian normal of the curve without the 10s. The show is nowhere near that rating. On no level.

I still vividly remember how they always take cover behind the car windows. Because steel might be fine, but glass will shatter the metal of any projectile fired at them...

Dunno, because of your post I decided to actually check what the reviews were.

There is 64, 60 *beep* 4 people that gave this a 10/10. 64/165. Goddamn insanity.

21 gave 9/10. 22 8/10. 10 7/10. 6 6/10. 12 5/10. 5 4/10. 13 3/10. 6 2/10. 6 1/10. 10 Gave no score.

If you ignore the obvious *beep* voting 10/10, then it averages to a 6.0 rating. Which is still far too high, but at least not insane.

Is one of the actors/actresses some kind of cult favourite? Might explain the bizzare ratings.

While 64 seems high, just ignoring them does not really make sense in the light of having the (second) most votes on 8 here as well. A normalized curve would result in perhaps 10-15 10/10 votes and still feature the 8/10 median.
Few people go through the hassle of writing a review for something they consider mediocre. Maybe for something really bad. This leaves full reviews for fanboys and -girls, so I kind of get that.

I am much more surprised about the "one click" voters. There is clearly a positive bias. Maybe the show just fell into the right time, when the internet was still more geeky opposed to facebook age, when everything is on the phone.
So the bias might exist because the people bothering to go online are pretty much the same crowd who tends to like underdeveloped sci-fi drama, while nobody else cared enough. Perhaps if it was released today the swarm would start downvoting it before the credits roll. Just a wild theory.

Not to worry...it was cancelled long time ago!!

insanity

The simple answer is not everyone likes the same thing. What some rate as a 10, others rate as a 2. It could be many of the 64 were fans of one of the actors on the show, or any number of other reasons. I found it to be an enjoyable show and an interesting look at what could happen if large numbers of the population were killed and basic services lost. I don't rate many shows, but in my case I would give it an 8/10.

Yes, it gets better. CBS wanted Jericho to be post-apocalyptic Mayberry RFD and that is why it was small town stories until the winter hiatus.

After that the writers were told they could write the story they wanted to. Episode 12 where the story really takes off.
