Jurgis *SPOILERS*

I just saw this movie on Syfy so perhaps this is addressed in the uncut version or in the DVD commentaries:

When Maya found Jurgis on the train, had he been drugged? The average man, having been beaten with a hammer by a massive mute guy, then stripped and hung by his ankles from a hook in a subway car, surrounded by several other people in the same condition, would presumably respond to the sight of a friend with screaming, crying, or some other hysteria, rather than saying, in an almost conversational tone, "What?" It almost sounded like he was asking her what she was so upset about!

I considered the possibility that the trauma had led him to dissociation mentally, but that didn't jell with the fact that he seemed to be responding to her specifically (which itself suggested that he wasn't suffering brain trauma that kept him from reacting in a more "normal" way).

I'm pretty good at handwaving small things, but this really stood out. If anyone cares to speculate, I'm all ears.

LOL... we must have been watching it at the same time last night, although I wasn't following it closely... I just had it on for background noise whilst reading a Dean Koontz novel... I finally had to mute it, as I found it quite disturbing.

... the hardest thing in this world is to live in it...

He wasn't saying "What?" He was saying "Maya" her name. It seemed to me like he was pleading with her to help him.

I have this on DVD, so I double checked with subtitles before responding your post. :)

That was very kind of you to double-check, thank you. What's weird is that I always keep the closed-captioning on (though my hearing is just fine), so perhaps the captioning said "What."

I just saw your reply. I haven't come on here in a long time. :) I like watching movies with subtitles. It annoys some people, but it helps me in instances such as this. :)
