It started so well...

Someone here pointed it out that the major problem with this film was that it has got no substance for a full lenght feature film.

The short story had to be enlarged, and here the defects started to show up.

I didnt read the short story, but I did like the film in the beginning. I liked specially the scene when the guy stalks the butcher and sees him waiting after the corner.

Then, when they showed the butcher taking his shirt off and cutting some stuff off, I realized they had nothing more to tell, and the story became a mess.

There is good camera work, for a horror film, and a good cast. But as I see it the plot couldve been gone to other directions. The final part shouldve been more suggestive, not as explicit.

My thoughts exactly. Such a great cast and I had high hopes when I first began watching it and then all of a sudden it turned into a ridiculous movie. What a disappointment.

The good part was up to the part until he chased the butcher into the slaughterhouse.. I had never read any story or anything related to the movie i got it and i watched it, simple. I was thinking maybe the butcher and that other dude were just in this together, and stored the bodies hidden in some place at the end of the track something like that, but it had to end so horribly i was so disappointed, i dislike these movies. If the movie does not start with me knowing it is going to be Alien/demon creature film i cant like it, like i do like Species or Alien or The Thing, and that is because I KNOW that i'm watching a film with unrealistic creatures. But when i got this one i thought it was just some serial killer, not something to do with demon's or death or some ancient alien crap

It completely fell apart before hand, but then again the entire premise is moronic. A primordial creature in the Abyss doesn't need his flesh to be prepared like a Butcher prepares meat for humans to consume.

The attempt to have a sigil on the ring to signify their order is another juvenile touch.

Haven't we had to endure the legacy of Lovecraft long enough? Hell, Poe's works were far superior, but nope we have to suffer through this bore due to the infamy of the Necronomicon--another boring pile of crap.

I agree for the most part but the story this movie was based on was NOT written by Lovecraft.

reply

It's obvious you don't know your Lovecraft if you compare this movie to Lovecraft at all.

reply

I definitely agree, even though I didn't mind the ending too much since I've seen worse. It had the potential to be better than what it was.

It almost seemed as the ending was just made up on the spot!

reply

ending wasn't made up on the spot. the short story it's based on apparently goes into more details as to who the creatures are and their relationship with humans and so on. it's based on a clive barker short story, so no suprises that, ooh ooh, weird creatures. i thought that was lame as well. it was rad as a brutal serial killer movie, with the driver and the butcher working together and maybe others, but the "ancient evil creatures" thing sux. it ruins any movie. i think movies about crazed humans attacking and killing others with brutality and predatory precision is much more creepier and scary.

reply

Well obviously it wasn't made up on the spot, I just said that it SEEMED like it was.

I'm aware it is a Clive Barker short story.

fair enough
