The same sleeping man from the beginning of the movie was also present at the end when Leon became the new butcher, in the exact same position and place - is the whole movie simply his own, personal version of Limbo, where he is forced to watch people dying over and over again for some reason?

Or is there another reason he is on the train?

If you pay close attention. The start of the movie is actually the end of the movie.
