What would have happened if...
Lars didn't have his family living across the way from him for support? Or indeed the support of the townspeople?
Would he have went completely off the rails?
There seem to be so many ways that this story could have ended up being really sad/dark instead of uplifting.
I think in real life it would have been a great deal more tragic.
