if a scientific research, i see it as 5 stages.
also add observation to every phase.
phase 1,
build an extremely shy character until he is ready to break and fake mental illness
phase 2,
play crazy, make the entire town unknowingly cooperate with you.
phase 3,
observe town using Lars and the doll for personal needs.
phase 4,
create incredible connection between town people and the doll, as to the actual belief of doll with life of its own.
phase 5,
slowly kill doll and show personal sorrow.
write a book and get a PhD. on human behavior.
