I am extremely bothered when two movies or TV series appear at the same time with the same theme. Once Upon a Time, Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman are all about Snow White. Ants and Bug's Life both came out at the same time. The Truman Show and EdTV, both essential on the same thing. The same is true for Rendition and a Mighty Heart, both about the husband of a pregnant woman who is kidnapped in the MIddle East. A Mighty Hear was based on a novel. Consider the film, the Time Traveler's Wife and the television series, Journeyman, each about a man who abruptly travels through time. Consider the novel, Replay by Ken Grimwood, published in 1987 about a man who lives his life over and over again without knowing why, and the movie, Groundhog Day, released in 1993, about a reporter who keeps living the same day over and over again without knowing why. Or X-Men, based on the comic book, followed by Heroes and then No Ordinary Family. The worst was when Disney ripped off Kimba the White Lion, virtually character for character, scene for scene, and then claimed it was coincidence. Movie studios each threaten everyone about pirating every time you play a DVD or blu-ray disc. Disney lobbied Congress to pass a law increasing copyright to almost forever to protect Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. But when it comes to other people's work, when it is something they want, it only seems to matter if you're rich.

A Mighty Hear was based on a novel.

No it's not. It's based on Mariane Pearl's memoir of life with and the search for her husband Daniel after his kidnapping in Pakistan. It's a true story.

Rendition is a completely fictional film, though many would argue true to life. If you've seen both you'll realise they are quite different films, though both in their own way deal with the repercussions of terrorism.

I hope you feel better after unloading Minerva, but it's just a fact of life with studios competing with one another.
