The significance of the scene where the Empire scientist was yelled to death.


My reading was that the Empire is in decline to the point where some people occupy higher level jobs not because of their competence and expertise in that field but because of who they know and their position as one of the in crowd. No matter how much the Emperor yelled at him the scientist couldn't provide any sort of satisfactory answer to his questions.

This is what is happening in Western countries now.

I’ve been in exec chamber meetings where commissioners are reamed out into tears over such demands for magical answers, it’s been a thing even in “golden age” eras of political bureaucracies. It would never be the scientist guy speaking directly to day, though, he would have a known flunky in the household staff do all that for him and then he would scream at the flunky.
