How did Bear McReary go from composing the good music for Battlestar Galactica...

... to composing the mediocre Foundation theme ?

Maybe this one was composed by Bear McDreary.

Galactica was the best work of McReary.

BG is my favorite series and loved the OST. Back then, I checked other works of McReary and (sadly) they were far from being as good as what he did for BG. But what he did for BG was just perfect. And the moment with his cover of All Along the Watchtowers during the 3rd season is probably one of best fits between music and image you could see in any scene of any show or movie.

I think he's writing for the tone of the show - I think it's quite nice. The show is slick, polished, smooth as glass and exploding with technology. I feel his theme fits that vibe well. BSG had a rough almost tribal feel. People lost in the "wilderness" trying to find their way home. Hence all the drums and percussion.

That being said....

Jeff Russo is where it's at ;)

Now *this* is a moving space theme...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYiW6huJgao
