taxi driver?

Is it just me, or this movie had astonishing similarities with Taxi Driver, which in my honest opinion were made on purpose by the director.

The way Bacon acts when he is buying weapons to Goodman and how Goodman shows them to him was so similar when DeNiro buys weapons, the way he begins to point and everything. Then he also shaves himself, just like DeNiro did (had him made the mohawk, that'd had been too much replica)
Then, at the end, he shoots the main bad guy (forgot his name) in the hand exactly as it happens in Taxi Driver when DeNiro shoots the bad guys's hand, and after that Bacon gets shot in the same place as DeNiro (at the side of his neck) and also sits down at a couch after being shot, just like DeNiro did. There are too many similarities with Taxi Driver which I couldn't help thinking while watching this...

I wonder if the director also copied the end of Taxi Driver (in Taxi Driver the end is most likely to be after he got shot all just a fantasy he created himself while he was dying, watching himself as a local hero and being aboarded by the woman he liked but was previously rejected from and being sent a "thank you" letter by Jodie Foster's parents for helping her) Should I also think that Bacon actually never got out of the gang's building and just died there, and all what we see afterwards is just his final fantasy, that he came back home and was told that his later son would walk again and leaving the audience with the thought: "could he possibly have survived??

I agree with your comments. This movie just sucks so bad, I only come back here after seeing movies again. It was just on, so I'm catching the latest on this stinker.

The Taxi Driver reference is an obvious one for me.
I think it was a conscious homage!

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

I just finished to watch this movie and I came running to this board to write the same thing. Totally agree. Taxi Driver is my favourite film and this Death Sentence is just an average crime thriller, so I felt I little offended with so obvious references. There were a lot of other ways to end this movie, but the silly director just copied one 70´s masterpiece.
