the son's death scene...

who stands there and lets someone slit their throat with a CHOP from a machete? defensive wounds appear in even the most extreme cases of stabbings. no matter how shocked or scared you are, you WILL try to block blows from an attacker. the fact that the son stood there and let them chop his throat open really ruined the movie for me. could have been powerful stuff but ended up pretty lame.

Not everyone's Jackie Chan.

Easier said then done. Put yourself in his shoes. I would've been frozen with fear I probably would've done the same thing despite what common logic tells you.

reply

I doubt it... You would have severely kicked into fight or flight mode. Even if you chose to freeze your hands would have at least been up to inherently attempt to protect your vital extremities at the recognition of danger. You would have to have an amazingly stalwart conscious thought to fight that urge.

reply

experts in hand to hand combat teach that the fight or flight response is not true it is called Fight Flight or freeze in hand to hand combat schools because the fact is when adrenaline starts pumping you will either fight flight or freeze but most of the time you actually just freeze

reply

Its not a question of being Jackie chan or not. The body has built-in reflexes to protect the head which are much faster then you can possible imagine. Try thinking the few times your eye-lid has closed by reflex when a fly almost hit the eye but got stuck in the eye-lid instead... THAT's how fast our built-in reflexes are.

So yes, i love the movie, buts i agree its stupid that the kid didn't have
ANY defensive wounds trying to protect his head/throat.

you know nothing

a bladed weapon is a faster more efficient weapon than a hand gun the average adult male can run 21 feet in 1.5 seconds and slash or cut or stab a person 7 to 10 times in that same 1.5 seconds. unless you have actual training you can not just block a knife or machete

Check out the 0:30 mark and tell me how easy it is to block a machete... http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=879_1383785044

the guy in that video merely turned his head while the attacker cocked his arm back and telegraphed the blow. That was a terrible reaction, most ppls hands would go up

reply

you do not know anything. in hand to hand combat you learn that peoples expected reactions are rarely used. a knife is one of the fastest most efficient weapons there is in fact with in a distance of 21 feet it is faster and more efficient than a hand gun. the average adult male can run 21 feet and stab or slash or cut a person 7 to 10 times in 1.5 seconds. where in the fastest a heavily trained cop can draw his gun and aim it is 1.5 seconds meaning in that same time i could stab you before you ever pulled your gun. the electrical impulses in the body travel at 200 plus miles per hour but the arm doesn't there is always a delay in response unless you actually have training
