With cops like these . . .
I always enjoy a good revenge movie and this one was okay. One basic flaw were the cops. Obviously the point of the movie was for Kevin Bacon to take his revenge on the scum that destroyed his family. But still, they could have tried to make the cops a bit more realistic. Three items; first during the initial chase of Kevin by the bad guys, they were shooting up the neighborhood and then the parking structure for what would have had to been 15 to 20 minutes and still the police hadn't shown up. They were, or course, on the way because we could hear the sirens but 20 minutes to actually respond to a street shootout? Secondly was when Kevin Bacon escaped from the hospital and I'm pretty sure he was at his house for a period of time after that and thus would have been very easy to pick up but apparently the cops didn't think to have the house under surveillance.
But the third one is the kicker. After the shooting at the house with a dead wife AND TWO DEAD COPS. They knew exactly who had committed the crime because, no doubt, Kevin Bacon would have told them (though I'm sure they had a pretty good idea anyway). Now if Hollywood has taught us anything it's that when someone kills a cop (in this case two) the gloves come off. They turn over every rock, they don't rest until the perpetrator has been subdued (and very possibly beaten to a pulp). And, again, I must state that they know exactly who had done the crime and likely knew where to start looking for them. But in this movie, apparently, they were content to just let "the war" fade away. So, in that city it seems almost mandatory that if someone wants justice done they have to do it themselves.
