I just saw the film and it was excellent. I would say everything was right. I forsee Oscar noms and hopefully wins and I know I'm not the only one. The only thing about the experience i found odd was that there were only two black people in the theater. Two black women in their 20's. Women who were not alive at the time and probably had no idea who he was. But they went because they knew it was an important time in black history? I don't know. I hope that's the answer. I hope more black people will see the film.
People shouldn't see this movie because it's about an important time in black history. People should see this movie because it's a well-told story (for the most part) featuring a strong cast.
The vast majority of this movie's potential audience has no idea who Petey Greene was; the movie is going to have to attract them (as it did me, my girlfriend and her sister tonight) on its own merits, without relying on familiarity.
Also, no one should see any movie solely on the basis of race. Some movies with predominantly black casts are great; some are horrible. Some movies with predominantly white casts are great; some are horrible. Etc., etc.
"I hope more black people will see this film"? No, I hope more people of all races will see this film.
Exactly! I'm not familiar with the guy either..but I like movies based on true stories! I was pissed this past weekend when I couldn't find it playing anywhere and the 1 theater that I found it at was sold out! Glad to see that it opens in wide release this coming week! We need to broaden our horizans and stopping buying into stupid sh#t like 'Who's your Caddy'!
