actually, i was kinda disappointed (spoilers discussed)
i couldn't wait to see this movie, but there were some a couple of holes that prevented me from fully enjoying the film. its an amazing story, but I think its told poorly. they say in the beginning that its 1966 and then the next time we get the a time reference its in the 80s. We should have known when he got out of jail, when he was on carson (so we could know how long it had been between the break up of his manager and his death). His substance abuse felt too subtle to make it the reason for his collapse (I thought everyone was partying hard back then). And most importantly, when petey and dewey 'break up'--why can't Petey go back to radio? that is all he wanted to do in the first place. if he was in high demand, he could have easily found another manager to get him gigs other than stand up comedy.
the last twenty minutes of the movie were confusing for me. When did Petey and his lady break up (she left a note on the mirror) and when did they get back together? (she goes to dewey to explain things late in the film)
As a big fan of Don Cheadle and a new fan of Mr. Ejiofor, I did like the movie. it was just a little spotty in the storyline for me to consider 'oscar' worthy or the best in '07.
