A good movie but...

There are more POSITIVE black figures that many people don't know about. Why don't they make more films about them? Petey Green (sp?) was somewhat interesting, but a positive figure? I don't know about that.

reply

I'm sorry, but that's kind of ignorant.

So every movie about a black figure has to be completely positive?

Sorry, Clare, but The_Bookreader is right. Who wants only sanitized and saintly portrayals? You wouldn't want to miss brilliant work like THE NEXT KING OF SCOTLAND would you? I think the relatively recent availability of a variety can only be a good thing.

Juelzsantana - If you could stop obsessively slinging the 'n' around (you find that positive, do ya? The 'smell' may be coming off your attitude.), you'd have time to make a nice long list of all the positive portrayals in the history of film. Otherwise your motives seem shaky. There are whiners and those who lead by example. At least you might consider honoring the fact that Kasi Lemmons completed a couple features, which is no small feat for a black female director. In my book that's definitely positive.

What have you seen in the last couple of years that you would recommend?

Wow, didn't realize that Imdb posters could be THAT ignorant.

Let's see....

Idi Amin was a monstrous, murdering tyrant in Uganda.

So, since his story isn't at all positive, he doesn't fit into your "good black folks" category.

Thus, by your logic, Idi Amin is a n****, and The Last King of Scotland is simply a movie about a n****.

Bravo.

Respectfully, Juelzsantana-1 - Your ignorance is astounding. Please quit while you're behind. You don't even seem to know African citizens from Black Americans. I mentioned GLORY and THE CRYING GAME (The American South and England) and some stories set in African countries. And the illustrious The_Bookreader mentioned 7 great movies, primarily involving African Americans.
Or were you thinking that famous Americans, Malcolm X and Dorothy Dandridge were born on another continent?

Thank you, The_Bookreader - First class list, and you reminded me what really good film MALCOLM X was. I'll have to give it a fresh look.

No one said anything or anybody was 'colliding'.
I think you know that I was making reference to black individuals born in Africa in contrast to African Americans/black Americans (those people born in the Americas or in places other than the Motherland). And there are Africans (people born in Africa) who are other than black (in case you're planning to twist that, too.)

If you were to compare Haitians with Africans, you would get somewhere because the term 'comparing' often amounts to noting the differences between one group/person/thing and another.

Congratulations- I salute you for not using any epithets in any form (except for the *beep*). Things are looking up. Thank you, I appreciate it.
At any rate, feel free to argue with someone else. Stick me with a fork,I'm done.

Who is 'they'? And why does every movie have to be about 'positive' people? The world is not full of 'positive' people. It's full of people with different dispositions and life stories.

I disagree.

There are many neighborhoods in major cities where blacks never see white people and they have their assumptions about us as well. So what. The bottom line is, don't rely on movies and TV to educate yourself about the world. Get out there in it [the real world] and learn. We should all teach our kids the same.

FWIW - Blacks only make up 13% of the US population but their influence in VAST AND UNPRESIDENTED. I would say that's very positive.
