PG-13?

What a great film! But one thing puzzled me... why is this rated PG-13 (rather than PG)? There's no nudity, I don't recall any bad language (unless the subtitles didn't do justice to some Spanish expletives), and there's no extreme violence. Is it Dona Carmen's cigarette smoking that puts it over the line??

I would be willing to bet that it is the smoking. For some reason having kids watching people smoking will destroy their whole lives.......according to the corrupt MPAA rating system of course. LOL

Seriously though it totally should have been PG.

What was the junkie in El Paso fixin' to do to him for his money? Have him wash dishes ?
Remember the prostitute scene? Was the guy forcing him into a car trying to force him into extended dishwashing ?
The connotation behind that segment was a lot stronger than the smoking.
